Tiggers

Ages 3.5 Years to 4.5 Years

The Tigger class continues where the Pooh Bear class ends.  Through self-directed activities and play time, children are encouraged to build strong friendships in larger group play.  For some Tigger children they will enter kindergarten in the coming fall and will have kindergarten readiness activities such as learning their written alphabet, writing their name, months of the year—all acquired through play activities and structured circle times.

The curriculum encourages not only social-emotional development in children, but also cultivates a love for learning and exploring things in their natural environment.  Children have opportunities to go on field trips (e.g., Nutcracker, Lawrence Hall of Science, Fire Station, and Crab Cove) and to explore various math and science activities (e.g., life cycles of plants and frogs).  This is also the class where children are encouraged to develop skills in self-regulation, such as recognizing body cues and feelings and learning ways to respond appropriately in those situations.

The Tigger and Kanga classes were on a field trip to Crab Cove (photographed here).  After listening to a presentation and visiting the museum there, they spent some time searching for sea life by the shore.  Few children decided to build a campfire on the sand.
